Home Energy Audits

A home energy audit is a thorough evaluation of a home to identify inefficiencies and areas where improvements can be made. The audit typically involves the use of specialized tools and equipment to assess various aspects of the home’s energy performance:

  1. Blower Door Test: This test measures the airtightness of your home. By creating a controlled pressure difference between the inside and outside of the house, the blower door helps identify air leaks and areas where unwanted airflow occurs. This test can pinpoint specific locations where sealing or insulation improvements are needed.

  2. Infrared Camera Scan: An infrared camera is used to detect temperature variations in walls, ceilings, and floors. This scan helps identify issues such as inadequate insulation, moisture problems, and heat loss or gain. By visualizing these temperature differences, the camera provides clear evidence of where energy inefficiencies are occurring.

  3. Attic/Crawl Space Inspection: This inspection assesses the insulation's installation, thickness, and type. We also identify any air leaks within the thermal envelope and examine attic/crawl space ventilation to ensure optimal performance.

The findings from the audit are compiled into a detailed report that outlines specific recommendations for improving energy efficiency. These recommendations might include sealing air leaks, upgrading insulation, or replacing inefficient appliances and lighting. By addressing these issues, homeowners can reduce energy consumption, lower utility bills, and enhance overall comfort in their home.

In some cases, local utility companies or government programs offer incentives or rebates for making energy-saving improvements recommended by the audit.

Central Energy Audits partners with several local utility companies to provide services to obtain rebates for home improvements based off of the evaluation of the home.
